The Institute for Ocean Conservation Science is dedicated to advancing ocean conservation through science. We conduct world-class scientific research that increases knowledge about critical threats to oceans and their inhabitants, provides the foundation for smarter ocean policy, and establishes new frameworks for improved ocean conservation.
The Institute is part of the Stony Brook University School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences and is headed by Executive Director Ellen K. Pikitch, PhD, a renowned marine fisheries scientist, Professor at Stony Brook University, and 2000 Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation. The Institute was established in 2003 as the Pew Institute for Ocean Science at the University of Miami with a founding grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts and is supported by a wide array of philanthropic organizations and private donors. |
